Who better to write about us in exciting stories than ourselves?
— S.L. Goodies

“Their Cursed Hart” is a paranormal erotic romance story about a trio of witches, which blew my socks off in the best way. How did you come up with the concept of this story?

Thank you, L.M., so much for reading it and having me here!  Yay! Mission accomplished.

I was thinking of making Ginger an energy vampire.  Then I thought “Oh, what if she was cursed?”  It kind of snowballed into her being a witch.  Anyhoo, after figuring out the curse I was thinking of how the hell is my MC going to have sex without killing her lovers and then it became Ginger being in love two witches: Princess Zora and her ladyship Rosalynn.

Who is your favorite writer, and why?

There are so many nowadays for me.  I will say that the one who dropped me into romance writing would be Bertrice Small.  I read her paperback, “The Kadin”, which gave me my first taste of a harem during The Ottoman Empire.  In the erotica category, hands down, it will be Zane. I remember reading her stories offline before she published them and expanded her empire.  She is still one of my favorites because she came out unapologetically writing about sex which was always hush-hush. It takes a lot of courage to be yourself, to be true to you.  So I can, at least now, appreciate her works and showing that black women come too.

What is must-watch-tv for you?

Hands down: A Million Little Things, any of the 90 Day Fiance, Top Chef, Hell’s Kitchen, Million Pound Menu, and Monogamy.  I want to start watching Queen Sono on Netflix soon. I’ve been hearing rave reviews about it from other authors.

How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing since I was a teenager.  It was escapism for me. However, professionally, I have been writing since February of last year.

What is your favorite genre to write? What is your favorite genre to read? Why?

This is like ‘which is your favorite child’ sort of question.  My favorite genre to write is erotica and romance. I enjoy a good freaky scene and what better way to do so then write it.  My favorite genre to read is between romance, erotica, paranormal, and thrillers. Reading these genres helps me with my writing along with being entertained.

Your stories feature “big beautiful black women” as heroines. Why do you feel it’s important to center black women in your stories?

To me it’s important to have us as black women represented because for so long we haven’t been.  Or at least not always in a great way or a positive light. I’m tired of the stereotypical roles that were/are made for us.  We are more than that! And who better to write about us in exciting stories than ourselves?

Do you have any rituals or superstitions around your writing?

Yes I do!  So I get all of my writing supplies where they need to be.  I grab my candles, set my intentions, light them, put on a playlist that corresponds with whichever project I’m working on and let the words flow.  If it has been awhile since I’ve written I’ll hit the space with some sage.

What’s the best writing advice you’ve received?

Be happy and enjoy whatever you’re writing about.

What projects do you have coming up next?

I am working on the next installments on Their Cursed Hart named: Their Broken Hart and Their Hart & Soul respectively.

I am currently working with a group of awesome authors on an anthology called, “Feline Assassins” lead by USA Bestselling Author V Vee.  Matter of fact you can get a taste of what’s to come as she wrote the prequel “I Am Command” and it’s available on Amazon. My Feline, Rhys Grover aka Chartreux, will be showing herself soon.  #Summer2020isgoingtobeakiller

I am working on a double book, two stories, same main character, but two different sets of  love interests and it is called, “Her Legends”.

I will be keeping readers posted in my Facebook author’s page and group: The Goodies Bag: S. L. Goodies Readers Collective.
